WEEE Recycling

At Mullingar Hardware Stores Ltd we support the responsible recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) and waste batteries, in line with our obligations under the WEEE and Batteries Regulations.

1. What is WEEE?

WEEE is any waste electrical or electronic equipment: essentially anything with a plug or a battery. It must never be placed in your household wheelie bins, because it can contain materials that are harmful to health and the environment. Items are marked with a crossed-out wheelie bin symbol to remind you to recycle them separately.

2. Free take-back when you buy from us

When you buy a new electrical item from us, we will take back your old equivalent item free of charge on a one-for-one, like-for-like basis. “Like-for-like” means the old item must be the same type or do the same job as the new one you are buying.

•      In branch: bring your old item to into our store when you buy the new one.

3. Free battery take-back

We accept waste batteries for recycling free of charge, and you do not have to buy anything to return them. You can drop off used batteries at any of the counters in store

4. Recycling charge shown on electrical products

The price of some electrical products includes an environmental management cost (a recycling contribution). Where this applies, the amount is shown with the product price so you can see it clearly.

5. Other ways to recycle

You can also bring WEEE and waste batteries free of charge to your local authority civic amenity site (recycling centre) at any time. To find your nearest recycling point, see weeeireland.ie or mywaste.ie.

6. Official recycling notice

Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) must never be placed in any of your household wheelie bins. WEEE is taken back free of charge at electrical retail outlets on a one-for-one, like-for-like basis. Local authority civic amenity facilities also take back WEEE free of charge. WEEE recycling is free.
